It is nearly a
year since Nicholas Walker first appeared at one
of The Old School Classical concerts, in April
2011, when he accompanied the young Polish
cellist Marcin Zdunik. David Short and the
organizing team are delighted that he has
accepted our invitation to return and give a
solo recital. As well as a
distinguished soloist, Nicholas is also a
composer and teaches at the Royal Academy of
Music. Nicholas' programme will include a
sonata by the Russian composer Balakirev, (whose
complete piano works he is currently recording),
some Chopin and other delights. |

The Strad hailed their “superbly realised
performance” and “precision of ensemble at
formidable rates of energy”.
Following their
selection by the European Concert Halls
Organisation (ECHO) as the UK Concert Halls’

Solstice
String Quartet

at The Old School,
Stoke Climsland
|
|
By
all accounts a wonderful evening and, as several long time
members told us, "possibly the most enjoyable Chamber
Music evening we have had since the Classical Club started
several years ago".
First prize winners
in the 2009 Royal Over-seas League Competition, the Solstice
String Quartet is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the
most talented young quartets in the country. Selected by both
the Tillett Trust and Park Lane Group in 2008 the quartet made
their debuts at the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room in 2009.
Established whilst studying at the Cambridge University in 2003,
they held a Junior Fellowship at the Instituto Internacional de
Música de Cámara de Madrid in 2008-9 where they studied every
month with Prof. Günter Pichler of the Alban Berg Quartet. They
have been awarded the Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship at the
Royal Academy of Music from September 2009.

================================================= |
Our concerts are set in the hall of The Old School, Stoke
Climsland, and take the form: music, dinner, music. You
don't have to take the two course dinner, but most do - it is
home cooked in The Old School kitchens, and usually involves a
delicious but unhealthy dessert.
